Can you add a computer assisted system to a fully functioning Ampico Reproducing grand piano ?

YES, you can !!!
This is Wayne Stahnke's LX digital player system he designed and has installed in Bosendorfer grands for several years now. The piano here is a 7 foot Mason & Hamlin grand piano with a beautifully restored factory installed Ampico Reproducing System, vintage 1930's paper roll operated. Scroll down a few posts to hear the Ampico vacuum operated system at its best.

a short (41 sec) performance of  "Baby Face"

Depending on your computer, the above link may open in my Winamp page. If it does, you will see a list of selections on the lower right side of the screen. You will see a scroll bar on the right hand side, just scroll down to the last entry (# 20 or higher), place the curser on that line, it will highlight, then double left click and you will hear the MP3 file. The volume control is in the center of the playback box, directly above the list of songs. To see how WINAMP works, just double left click on any of the songs. The playback box works just like a tape or disc deck. To return to this page, go up the screen to were it says WINAMP, click on that name, and it will light up yellow, then click on the "X" directly to the right to close the screen and return back to here. Any questions or problems, just e-mail me and I'll get right back to you:

Jim Riggs is a theatre organist extradordinare.  He has even appeared at Macy's in Philadelphia to play the former Wanamaker Court Organ. He plays in the style of the late, great Jesse Crawford. When I first worked for Taylor Music, I was still in high school, and Fred had me working at the Montgomeryville Mart on weekends as a demonstrator. I would put a roll on the player piano and play along with the piano. That was a real crowd pleaser and resulted in many instrument sales. Jim plays with a Steinway grand piano equipped with a Piano Disc Player System. The piano arrangement is played by Adam Carroll, via a four hand performance. Check out the 3rd refrain as the piano does some great arpeggios against the solid solo organ melody. Nice camera closeups too.

The other half of the Classical Virtuoso Duo, Maria Evangeline Pappas, lyric sprinto soprano. If you would like to have these talented people perform in concert for your organization, please fax the particulars to me, and I will forward that to Jonathan and Maria. My fax is:   215-853-0336  no need for a cover sheet, it comes directly to me. Any written comments can be posted here. I check my site several times a day.

Meet my friend Mr. Jonathan Miles Freeman.  Jonathan is a very accomplished concert pianist, who graduated from the Juliard Scool of Music. This is his rendition of A Handful Of Keys, as styled by Fats Waller. If you would be interested in having Mr Freeman perform a concert for your organization, please fax the particulars to me at:      215-853-0336      anytime between 9 am to 9 pm eastern time. My fax is private, so you don't need a cover sheet. Check out the next video, to hear his vocal partner, Maria Pappas, performing as the Classical Virtuoso Duo.

I love the theatre organ style of playing. Here  is a unique number that lives up to it's title:  Puttin On The Ritz.  The organist, Walt Strony,  plays a piano/organ duet by himself, and really shows off the sound and power of the Wurlitzer Theatre Organ. The Skater's Waltz is a popular piano piece. Here is an Ampico roll, played as a four hand interpretation on a beautifully restored Mason & Hamlin 7' grand. This piano is properly tuned and regulated correctly. From a piano technician's standpoint, this instrument is a real pleasure to hear.

Another Seeburg model H, rebuilt by Dave Ramey Associates. The musical selection is "Ma, He's Making Eyes At Me". A very good rendition on America's largest built orchestrion nickelodeon. This instrument is vacuum operated for piano and percussion instrumentation and air pressure for the flute and reed pipes. Enjoy.
